Last week I had the pleasure of doing a guest lecture at The Northern School of Art. I graduated from there in 2017 and they invited me to do a virtual talk on my journey as a freelance photographer over the past 4 years.

Banana Traybake /
Yesterday I took stock of how much flour I seem to have accumulated. Not so much quantity but variety. So after making a 50/50 bread, I baked a banana traybake. I found half a packet of chocolate chips, not enough for a decent cake, so I raided what was in my daughter’s sweet stash and found a Toffee Crisp, a Yorkie bar (practically) cooking chocolate anyway), and a packet of Rolos. And, again, a variety of sugars.

Ok so this recipe was born out of leftovers, like many good recipes.
Yesterday my daughter and I made some chocolate eclairs with a custard filling and dark chocolate ganache topping. With plenty of both the filling and topping leftover, I was wondering whether they’d freeze and it took me moments to work out they’d both combine to make a great ice cream!

Last week I had the really good fortune of photographing food for Napoli Wood Fired Pizza in Seaton Carew. I’m not even kidding, when the job came my way I jumped at the chance.

It is most certainly the weather for a soup like this. I’m a fan of home made soup, there is nothing better on a cold, blustery day like today. I’m also a fan of butternut squash, it’s one of my favourite vegetables.

It’s been a while since I blogged. Work, the summer holidays, work… I’ve been preoccupied!
But that’s not to say I haven’t been making and baking things blog-worthy, it’s just been a case of finding the time to get online and upload some recipes and photographs.

I met Amy Jowers a long time ago. When she was little; a crazy, energetic kid as I recall. Fast forward lots of years later to a (sort of) chance encounter on social media and a shared love of food threw us back together.

Ok so it's only easy if you have an ice cream maker, which I am fortunate enough to have. Well, it was my mum's to be fair.

Today is the first day of the summer holidays and my daughter and me went fruit picking in Piercebridge. A whole lot of fun was had by us both. We arrived really early and it was nice and peaceful, probably the only peaceful activity we will get to do over the next 6 weeks!

The easiest cupcake recipe was given to me by my mum, it’s easy to remember and it’s a good one to have in the memory bank for anyone who likes to bake with kids. If, like me, you always have in the cupboards self-raising flour, caster sugar, butter, and eggs, these cakes can be made within no time of a small person asking ‘can we bake?’.

Christmas and hot chocolate go hand in hand. My humble opinion but there is something very cosy about hot chocolate and dark, winter nights.

Fifteas Vintage Tearooms has a brightly coloured sign, swinging on the side of the building. It’s the only hint as to what is inside the otherwise plain looking row. Ran by sisters Alicia Teasdale and Becci Nye, the tearoom is located in the market place in Bishop Auckland.

At the weekend, our lovely neighbour called round with a bag of cooking and eating apples, fresh from her daughter's garden. My daughter got straight into the eating apples and I got straight onto wondering what to make with the cooking apples.

Last week I was back in the studio shooting a quick project on steamed greens. The idea came from a picture I made a few months ago, a spear of broccoli shot on a black background, and it was something I wanted to expand upon.
